HC Deb 21 June 1937 vol 325 cc815-6
67. Sir W. Davison

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he is able to give any information as to the estimated amount of the gold reserve of the Russian Soviet Government?

The Financial Secretary to the Treasury (Lieut.-Colonel Colville)

In the last annual report of the Bank for International Settlements the gold reserve of the Union of Socialist Soviet Republics at the end of 1936 is estimated at 3,535 million gold Swiss francs, or about £236,000,000. I know of no official figures.
