HC Deb 08 June 1937 vol 324 cc1593-4
73. Mr. Thorne

asked the Minister of Health whether he can give the House any information in connection with the members of the Skegness Council being surcharged for what is termed illegal expenditure in connection with the postage of official guides to potential holiday-makers?

Mr. Bernays

The Skegness audit is in progress, and I understand that objection was taken to expenditure alleged to be in excess of the statutory limit on advertising the district, but that the objectors have withdrawn their objection and that application will be made to my right hon. Friend to sanction the excess expenditure under Section 228 of the Local Government Act, 1933. No surcharge has been made. My right hon. Friend cannot, of course, express any opinion on the application for sanction until the facts are fully before him.
