HC Deb 08 June 1937 vol 324 cc1563-4
16. Mr. J. J. Davidson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland the total number of old age pensioners receiving relief from the Glasgow public assistance committee, and the total amount involved for the years 1933 and 1936?

Mr. Wedderburn

The numbers of old age pensioners receiving relief from the Glasgow public assistance committee at 15th May in the years 1933 and 1936 were 10,118 and 13,428 respectively. The total amount of the relief granted to old age pensioners during the years ended May, 1933, and May, 1936, is not available.

Mr. Davidson

Are the hon. Gentleman's Department and his chief aware of the growing feeling with respect to old age pensioners having to go on public assistance; and will he ask his right hon. Friend to consider the advisability of urging on the Government the necessity for a reconsideration of old age pensions?

Mr. Wedderburn

I think that is a different question from the Question on the Paper.
