HC Deb 08 June 1937 vol 324 cc1573-4
35. Mr. Bellenger

asked the President of the Board of Trade when he proposes to set up a departmental committee to inquire into the need for a revision of the Companies Act, 1929?

Mr. Stanley

I cannot add to the statement on this subject which was circulated by my predecessor in the OFFICIAL REPORT of 17th November, 1936, except that the Departmental Committee on Share-pushing, foreshadowed in that statement, has since been appointed. I am sending the hon. Member a copy of the statement in question.

Mr. Bellenger

I am well aware of that statement. Does the right hon. Gentleman realise that until the share-pushing legislation and the trust legislation are out of the way, the Companies Act cannot be altered, and will he therefore expedite that legislation?

Mr. Stanley

That is another reason for dealing with this matter as quickly as we can.
