HC Deb 07 June 1937 vol 324 cc1395-6
1. Mr. Day

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India the number of Europeans and Indians at present employed in the Indian police service; and whether all the recommendations of the Lee Commission in regard to the officering of this service have been carried out?

Lieut.-Colonel Sir A. Lambert Ward (Treasurer of the Household)

I have been asked to reply. The figures in the latest available return are 493 Europeans and 184 Indians. The reply to the second part of the question is in the affirmative.

Mr. Day

Can the hon. and gallant Member say whether the percentage of officers and men will be maintained?

Sir A. Lambert Ward

I understand that the percentage will come on a fifty-fifty basis in 1949, following the recommendation of the Lee Commission.
