HC Deb 27 July 1937 vol 326 c2841
35. Sir T. Moore

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether his attention has been called to the report issued by the milk production department of the West of Scotland Agricultural College with regard to the deleterious effect of pasteurising milk; and what proportion of the milk used in connection with the milk-in-schools scheme under his Department is pasteurised and fresh, respectively?

Mr. Elliot

I have seen the report in question, which relates to an experiment into the relative value of raw and pasteurised milk in calf-feeding. I should point out that the results of any single experiment have to he taken in conjunction with a great number of other experiments on this subject which have been and are being made. As regards the second part of the question, 53 per cent. of the milk used in connection with the milk-in-schools scheme in Scotland is pasteurised, and 47 per cent. untreated. A large proportion of the milk in both categories is tuberculin-tested.
