HC Deb 21 July 1937 vol 326 cc2197-8
45. Mr. Macquisten

asked the Prime Minister whether the Government are prepared to give time for the passing of the Sea Fish (Dyeing and Colouring Prohibition) Bill?

The Prime Minister (Mr. Chamberlain)

In view of the state of Parliamentary business, I fear I can hold out no hope of special facilities being given for this Bill.

Mr. Macquisten

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that there is no opposition to the Bill in the House except from one or two Members on the benches behind him, and that it could be put through in five minutes? Meantime, people are being fed with very unsavoury fish.

Mr. Law

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that there is very considerable opposition from various sections of the fishing industry?

Viscountess Astor

Would not more of the population eat these kippers if they were properly prepared?
