HC Deb 21 July 1937 vol 326 cc2185-6
16. Mr. V. Adams

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether any, and, if so, what reforms of the League of Nations are going to be proposed by His Majesty's Government at the forthcoming meeting of the Assembly at Geneva.

Mr. Eden

The question of League reform has been referred by the Assembly to the Committee on the Application of the Principles of the Covenant. The observations on this question, which on behalf of His Majesty's Government, I made to the Assembly last year have been referred to this Committee, together with the observations of other governments. The Committee will be meeting before the forthcoming Assembly, and will no doubt inform the latter of the position of its work.

Mr. Adams

What is the attitude of His Majesty's Govermnent towards the unanimity rule?

Mr. Eden

Is the hon. Member referring to Article 11?

Mr. Adams

Yes.

Mr. Eden

I think that is covered by the statement already made, and the view expressed there is still held.

Mr. Mander

Is not an attitude by the Government the most urgent requirement at the moment?
