HC Deb 21 July 1937 vol 326 c2190
32. Mr. Creech Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether he will give consideration to the setting up of a committee to advise him on questions of industrial legislation and labour welfare in the Colonies, such committee to function in his office in a somewhat similar way to the other important advisory committees already operating usefully?

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

There is already in existence in the Colonial Office an official Standing Committee known as the Colonial Labour Committee, which was set up in 1931, and whose function is to consider and advise upon labour questions affecting the Colonies. The committee has functioned ever since on the same lines, and I am satisfied that it provides a machinery fully adequate for the purpose for which it was created.
