§ 50. Mr. Thurtleasked the Prime Minister whether His Majesty's Government will send a formal invitation to the German Foreign Secretary to carry out his projected visit to this country at an early date, having in mind the desirability of doing everything possible to bring about an appeasement of the present strained political situation in Europe?
§ The Prime MinisterIn view of the approaching holidays, His Majesty's Government do not consider the present moment appropriate for renewing their invitation to the German Foreign Secretary, but the German Government will be aware from my recent observations on the subject that we should welcome an opportunity for discussion of problems of common interest at a suitable time.
§ Mr. ThurtleArising from that reply, which I heard imperfectly, may I ask the Prime Minister not to allow diplomatic niceties to stand in the way of action of this kind, if he thinks thereby that the cause of peace may be served?
