HC Deb 12 July 1937 vol 326 c865
61. Mr. Lipson

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether he has considered the resolution passed by the Association of Education Committees on 9th June, and sent to him, requesting the Board to appoint a representative departmental committee to consider the question of a grant in aid of local expenditure on education; and, in view of the fact that education authorities are dissatisfied with the present system of grants which, in the majority of areas, cast an unfair burden on local ratepayers, whether he will give an undertaking that a representative committee will be set up without delay?

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education (Mr. Kenneth Lindsay)

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. My Noble Friend has invited the Association of Education Committees to appoint a small committee to discuss with officers of his Department the practical difficulties of the present situation.
