HC Deb 25 January 1937 vol 319 c561
28. Mr. Leach

asked the Minister of Agriculture the number of persons who would be eligible to receive the subsidy under the Livestock Industry Bill at present, giving the nearest estimate?

Mr. W. S. Morrison

Any person who is or cares to become a producer of fat cattle and presents for certification a beast of the prescribed type and quality will be eligible to receive the subsidy. The number of persons at present producing fat cattle in the United Kingdom which are likely to qualify for subsidy is estimated to be 130,000.

Mr. Leach

Can the Minister inform me who will be the likely recipient of the next munificent grant from the taxpayers?

Mr. Morrison

It is anyone who engages in this pursuit of producing cattle. It is open to the hon. Member, if he is attracted by the prospects, to engage in that occupation.

Mr. Leach

May I put in an application for anybody who is seeking relief of this sort?
