HC Deb 25 January 1937 vol 319 cc563-4
32. Mr. Viant

asked the Postmaster-General whether he has seen the report of the proceedings on the occasion of a deputation received by the engineer-in-chief from the Post Office Engineering Union, on 25th November, 1936; and whether he is in agreement with the replies given to the deputation, especially in regard to the value of pension privileges and regular overtime?

Major Tryon

I have seen the report referred to. The statements made to the deputation in regard to the financial value of the factors in question were approximately correct. But the representations made by the union are under consideration.

Mr. Viant

Do I understand that the Postmaster-General endorses that reply?

Major Tryon

If the hon. Member will look at the answer he will see what is our attitude. We are going into this matter with the union to clear it up.

Mr. Viant

But is the Postmaster-General in agreement with this reply that regular overtime should be taken into account when assessing pensions?

Major Tryon

That is the point which I have told the hon. Member we are going into with the union.
