HC Deb 25 January 1937 vol 319 c568
42. Sir W. Davison

asked the hon. Member for Central Leeds as representing the Ecclesiastical Commissioners, for what reason the Commissioners have turned out their tenants in Abingdon Street, leaving the several premises unoccupied; and whether it is the intention of the Commissioners to pull the houses down and rebuild?

Mr. Denman (for the Ecclesiastical Commissioners)

Notice was given in order that the site should be available if required for King George V Memorial. It is the intention that the houses shall be demolished and replaced by a building appropriate to the situation and the future of the surroundings.

Sir W. Davison

Has any compensation been paid to the tenants who have been displaced, and will they be offered accommodation in the proper new building?

Mr. Denman

There is no compensation, as the tenancies came to an end in the normal way.
