HC Deb 19 January 1937 vol 319 c13
17. Mr. Lewis

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can now make a further statement as to the discussions between His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom and His Majesty's Governments in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand as to the assistance of British shipping services in the Pacific?

Dr. Burgin

The report of the Imperial Shipping Committee has been under consideration and His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom have formulated certain proposals as a basis for discussion with the Dominion Governments concerned. The proposals will be communicated to these Governments in the course of the next few days.

Mr. Lewis

Could the hon. Gentleman say whether the President of the Board of Trade is raising with the President of the United States of America the question of the competition of United States shipping in this matter?

Dr. Burgin

Not without notice.
