§ 11. Mr. Dayasked the Minister of Labour the number of places at present provided in training centres for unemployed women and girls, including residential and non-residential house-training centres; the number of women in training at the last convenient date; and the number of trainees who have passed through the training centres during the three years to the last convenient date who are in the employment to which they were originally sent?
§ Mr. E. BrownThere is a total of 1,334 places at present available to unemployed women and girls under the Domestic Training Scheme administered on behalf of my Department by the Central Committee on Women's Training and Employ- 2159 ment. The number of persons now in training in these centres is 971. The total number who completed a course at these centres during the calendar years 1934, 1935 and 1936 is 10,135. I have no information as to whether all these persons are still in the employment for which they were trained, but experience suggests that the majority remain in domestic employment.
§ Mr. DayIs the right hon. Gentleman satisfied with the progress that is being made at these centres?
§ Mr. BrownI certainly am not, though I am satisfied with the way in which the centres are run. There are seven residential centres and 33 non-residential. I should like to see a great many more women and girls coming forward.
21. Sir Nairne Stewart Sandemanasked the Minister of Labour how many people are being trained annually as poultry farmers in the labour training centres; and how many of those drafted out of the centres are established annually in the poultry business?
§ Mr. BrownNo training in poultry farming is given at the training or instructional centres administered by my Department.
