HC Deb 25 February 1937 vol 320 c2190
75. Mr. Viant

asked the Minister of Transport whether he is aware that for the 21 months ended October, 1936, there were 719 accidents on the Willesden section of the North Circular Road, and that there is indignation among all sections because of the continued de-restriction of this road, which is in a built-up area; and why he continues to refuse to accede to the repeated requests of the Willesden Borough Council that he should receive a deputation on this subject?

Captain Hudson

The hon. Member will recall that in December last he introduced a deputation on which the Willesden Council were represented regarding speed limits generally on arterial roads in London. I do not think that any useful purpose would be served by receiving a deputation in regard to this particular road until the Middlesex County Council, who are the responsible highway authority, have come to a decision regarding certain suggestions made to them by my Department with a view to improving conditions on this road.
