HC Deb 17 February 1937 vol 320 c1164
20. Mr. Paling

asked the Secretary of State for the Colonies whether, in view of the recent reports dealing (inter alia) with the question of native taxation in the East and Central African Dependencies, he can obtain information on the methods and incidence of such taxation in, other territories, including the Union of South Africa?

Mr. Ormsby-Gore

As I informed the hon. Member for Chesterfield (Mr. Benson) on 1st February, the various systems of native taxation are now under consideration by the East African Governments. Information regarding systems of taxation obtaining in other territories in Africa is, of course, fully available to them.
