HC Deb 17 February 1937 vol 320 c1176
41. Mr. Garro Jones

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Air whether the Air Ministry has tested any new apparatus for the prevention of fire in aircraft, and with what result?

Sir V. Warrender

Yes, Sir. Approval has recently been given for the adoption, in so far as installation in particular types of aircraft is practicable, of the Graviner Extinguisher which operates automatically in the event of the aircraft crashing and will tend to prevent the ignition of escaping fuel. In addition, tests are proceeding and should shortly be completed with the Henderson Safety Fuel Tank.

Mr. Garro Jones

Is the possibility being considered of requiring the compulsory fitting of this apparatus to passenger-carrying aircraft?

Sir V. Warrender

I could not answer that question without notice.
