HC Deb 11 February 1937 vol 320 cc553-4
14. Mr. Logan

asked the Minister of Labour whether he is now able to make a statement as to the monetary concession the Unemployment Board will give to unemployed in the Coronation week?

Mr. E. Brown

I am in communication with the Board on this matter and will inform the hon. Member as soon as I am in a position to make a statement in reply to a further question.

Mr. Logan

Is the Minister aware that it is now four weeks since the previous question was put down, and is it not possible for him to move this Board to give a decision? Is he aware of the importance of this matter, and that many people are waiting in Liverpool while the Board are making up their minds; and can he ginger them up?

Mr. Brown

I will let the hon. Gentleman know when to put a question down.

Mr. Logan

Is not the right hon. Gentleman considered to be the most promising Member of the Front Bench?

16. Miss Horsbrugh

asked the Minister of Labour in how many cases in Dundee have recipients of unemployed assistance received an increased allowance as compared with the amount they received under the standstill agreement, and in how many cases have there been decreases in the payments made to them?

Mr. Brown

When all cases had been reviewed under the new regulations in December last, about 1,250 persons in the Unemployment Assistance Board's two Dundee areas were in receipt of more than they would have received under the standstill arrangements. In the week ended 22nd January, which is the latest date for which information is available, no person in either area was receiving less than under the standstill arrangements.
