asked the President of the Board of Trade whether any licences have been issued for the export of arms to Japan during the last three calendar months?

Mr. Stanley

One export licence for war material for Japan has been issued during the last three months.

Mr. Noel-Baker

Is it the principle of the Government not to issue such licences?

Mr. Stanley

There is no prohibition on the export of arms either to China or Japan.
