HC Deb 16 December 1937 vol 330 cc1341-2
85. Mr. Higgs

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that, at the recent Hotel, Restaurant, and Caterers' Exhibition, stoves, cooking utensils, etc., were mostly of French, Italian, or German manufacture, most chefs, being of foreign extraction, favouring equipment from the country they came from; and will he consider imposing a quota on the above goods?

Mr. Stanley

My information does not confirm the suggestion in the first part of my hon. Friend's question. As regards the second part, there is no power to impose quota restrictions on imports of stoves and cooking utensils; but I would observe that imports of these goods represent a very small proportion of the home production.
