§ 50. Mr. Loganasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Education whether he is now able to state what arrangements have been made between the Liverpool City Council and managers of non-provided schools in Liverpool to implement the provisions of the Education Act, 1936?
Mr. LindsaySo far as my Noble Friend is aware the Liverpool local education authority have not yet exercised the power conferred on them by Section 8 of the Education Act, 1936, to enter into grant agreements with the managers of non-provided schools.
§ Mr. LoganIs the hon. Gentleman aware that in Liverpool the slogan now is, "No grants for schools," and in view of the delicacy of the situation there, is he prepared to take up the question with the authorities in Liverpool with the view to an amicable settlement, as I fear that very shortly there will be sectarian difficulties in that city?
Mr. LindsayMy Noble Friend is aware of the difficulties and also of the deficiencies, and the authority recently has been asked by the Board for a statement of the steps which it proposes to take to improve the position.
§ Mr. LoganIf I bring this question forward after the Recess, will the hon. Gentleman be ready to give an answer as to what has been done?
