asked the Minister of Health whether he will take further steps to induce the local authorities to carry out the recommendations of the report of the Departmental Committee on Local Government of 1934?

I have been asked to reply. A copy of a circular issued by my right hon. Friend on this subject last year is being sent to the hon. Member. I may add that the recommendations in regard to the institution of a central advisory committee are at present being explored by a committee of representatives of local government associations, which my right hon. Friend has recently convened.

Has the Minister's attention been called to the letter by the Vice-Chancellors of the Universities of Oxford, Cambridge and Bristol, noting the failure of local authorities to act in this matter?
