HC Deb 27 April 1937 vol 323 cc150-1
7. Mr. Day

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he will give particulars of what schemes the Government have, at the present time, for the prevention of coast erosion in the United Kingdom, particularly on the south coast of England; how many persons are at present employed thereon; and will he consult with the Minister of Labour for the purpose of preparing general coast protection schemes?

Mr. Runciman

The Board of Trade have no power to initiate schemes of sea defence, which are a matter primarily for the local interests concerned.

Mr. Day

Are any schemes submitted by the Sussex authorities awaiting the right hon. Gentleman's approval?

Mr. Runciman

I will make inquiries.
