HC Deb 21 April 1937 vol 322 c1729
10. Mr. Day

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs which of the 66 States who were invited by the Government of the United States of America to accede to the Treaty for the Renunciation of War, as signed in Paris on the 27th August, 1928, have not done so; and to what extent His Majesty's Government still consider themselves bound by the conditions of this treaty?

Mr. Eden

Of the States invited to accede to the Treaty for the Renunciation of War, His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom have received no formal notification of accession by the Argentine Republic, Bolivia, Salvador and Uruguay. As regards the second part of the question, His Majesty's Government in the United Kingdom consider themselves fully bound by the provisions of the Pact.

Mr. Day

Can the right hon. Gentleman say whether any steps have been taken to bring these countries into agreement?

Mr. Eden

No, Sir, I cannot.

Mr. Mander

How many States who signed this agreement failed to carry out their obligations?

Mr. Eden

Fortunately I have only to answer for our own Government.
