HC Deb 21 April 1937 vol 322 cc1730-1
20. Mr. Alexander

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty whether any reports have been made to him of new German fortifications and artillery at Benzou, Ceuta, and other strategic points on the Moroccan coast; whether these developments are regarded as constituting any future danger to the passage of ships through the Straits of Gibraltar; and whether the Government propose to take any action in the matter?

Sir S. Hoare

I have received no official reports of new German fortifications and artillery on the Moroccan coast. The second and third parts of the question, therefore, do not arise. I understand that my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs is making official inquiries.
