HC Deb 29 October 1936 vol 316 cc20-1
39. Mr. MATHERS

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he is in a position to make a statement of policy in relation to the recommendations made by the committee dealing with the wages and conditions of Scottish farm workers?

In asking the only Scottish question to-day may I express my regret that the right hon. Gentleman to whom it was addressed three months ago is not now with us?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for SCOTLAND (Lieut.-Colonel Colville)

The recommendations of the Committee on Farm Workers in Scotland have formed the subject of discussion with the agricultural organisations concerned and are being carefully considered, but it is not yet possible to make a statement.

Mr. MATHERS

Is the matter being actively pursued, and is the urgency of it recognised by the Government?

Lieut.-Colonel COLVILLE

Yes, Sir.
