10. Mr. VYVYAN ADAMSasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what progress has been made in the stamping down of anti-Jewish manifestations; and whether, to avoid this evil, his Department will take legislative authority to ban the wearing of political uniforms?
§ The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Geoffrey Lloyd)The Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis informs me that, as the result of the special measures taken by the police, there has been a definite reduction of the grosser forms of anti-Semitic activity in the East End, but that the Fascists have not relaxed their efforts to arouse anti-Jewish feeling by innuendo and veiled abuse. The police will continue to take every step in their power to put a stop to these mischievous activities. As regards the second part of the question, I regret that I cannot anticipate the statement of the legislative programme for the next Session.
Mr. ADAMSMay we have an early answer about these uniforms as we have now had about three years to consider how to deal with these dangerous lunatics?
§ Mr. MACQUISTENWill my hon. Friend call the attention of the Home Secretary to the Clans Act of 1746 whereby the people of the Highlands were forbidden to wear the kilt, which reduced the Highland population to a very ragged 8 condition and deprived them of the most sanitary and best form of dress?
