HC Deb 16 November 1936 vol 317 c1312
12. Sir WILLIAM DAVISON

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he can make a statement to the the House as to the placing by the Soviet Government of additional guards round the British Embassy in Moscow who question all persons calling at the Embassy; and what is the reason for this action?

Mr. EDEN

I have seen statements on this subject in the Press, but I have received no report from His Majesty's Ambassador, who can be relied upon to keep me informed of any important developments affecting His Majesty's Embassy.

Mr. THURTLE

Does not the right hon. Gentleman think it undesirable that questions of this kind should be founded on mere Press reports?

Sir W. DAVISON

Is there not very serious evidence that what I say in my question is correct There are reasons for it.
