HC Deb 16 November 1936 vol 317 c1320
34. Sir W. DAVISON

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Health, as representing the First Commissioner of Works whether he will consider as to the external lighting of the stained glass leaded windows on either side of the House of Commons so as to relieve the somewhat gloomy appearance of the Chamber after sundown and to some extent improve the lighting?

Mr. HUDSON

My noble Friend is prepared to consider the suggestion if it appears that a wide demand exists for such a proposal.

Sir W. DAVISON

Can the hon. Gentleman have one or two windows lit from the outside so that the House may see the effect of the proposed lighting? Is he aware that many halls, such as those of the City Companies, have for years been lit in this way? There is a very much more pleasing appearance from the inside the windows have the same appearance as in daylight instead of a grey mass effect as at present at night.
