§ 60. Mr. GARDNERasked the Home Secretary whether he is aware that congestion in remand homes for children and young persons continues, that long periods still elapse between committals to approved schools and admissions to schools, and remedial training is being greatly hindered; and whether he proposes to take any steps to encourage the provision of additional approved school accommodation?
§ Mr. LLOYDI would refer the hon. Member to the answer given to a similar question on 16th March last. Since that date five new schools have been approved and come into use making a total of 14 since 1933, and my right hon. Friend is in negotiation with local authorities and voluntary organisations for the provision of 13 others, three of which will be open, it is hoped, before the end of January. Steps will be taken to secure the provi- 1332 sion of yet more accommodation if it is found to be necessary.
