HC Deb 10 November 1936 vol 317 c669
17. Mr. De CHAIR

asker the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that Australia sacrificed an important market for her wool by giving British exports preference over Japanese goods in Australian markets; and whether he will therefore give Australia in particular, and the Empire in general, preferential consideration in all forthcoming trade pacts.

Mr. RUNCIMAN

I am aware that the Japanese Government have introduced certain measures affecting imports from Australia. As regards the second part of the question, I can assure my hon. Friend that all relevant considerations are taken into account during the negotiation of trade agreements.

Mr. De CHAIR

Will my right hon. Friend bear in mind that Australia does pay interest on her debts, which is more than can be said of the Argentine?
