HC Deb 05 November 1936 vol 317 cc234-5
45. Mr. GALLACHER

asked the Prime Minister on what grounds the Government have decided to refuse to meet representatives of the unemployed, Jarrow, and blind marchers now on their way to London with a view to putting grievances before the Government?

The PRIME MINISTER

The grounds were fully stated in the statement which was published in the Press of 15th October, a copy of which I am sending to the hon. Member.

Mr. GALLACHER

is the Prime Minister not aware that I have read that statement and that it is not satisfactory, and will he not recognise that the feeling throughout the country was in favour of the Government on this occasion receiving a deputation from the marchers and discussing with them?

Mr. H. G. WILLIAMS

Has the Prime Minister received reports as to whether any deputations of hunger marchers have recently been received at the Kremlin?

Mr. GALLACHER

There are no hunger marchers in Moscow.
