HC Deb 05 November 1936 vol 317 c224
22. Mr. RHYS DAVIES

asked the Home Secretary whether he has noted the observations of the Committee of Public Accounts calling attention to the absence of any statutory provision for uniformity in the determination of the specified sums, or supervision of payments, due to charities under the Cinematograph Act; and whether he intends to take action in the matter?

Mr. LLOYD

My right hon. Friend has noted the observations to which the hon. Member refers and the matter is now engaging his attention.

Mr. DAVIES

Will the Home Office really go into this matter thoroughly, because the Public Accounts Committee have disclosed a very unsatisfactory state of affairs?

Sir ARTHUR MICHAEL SAMUEL

Is the Under-Secretary aware that unless steps are taken in accordance with the recommendations of the Public Accounts Committee the intentions of the Act are entirely nullified?

Mr. LLOYD

I have indicated that my right hon. Friend is taking this matter into consideration.
