HC Deb 29 May 1936 vol 312 cc2381-2
11. Mr. MANDER

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether he is satisfied that the forces of the League of Nations Powers in the Mediterranean, as co-ordinated by recent staff conversations, are adequate to deal with an attack by the Italian aggressor.

Viscount CRANBORNE

The aim of the conversations to which the hon. Member refers was to safeguard the maintenance of collective security in the Mediterranean. In the view of His Majesty's Government, this aim has been achieved.

Mr. MANDER

I take it that, on this occasion it will be made quite clear that the British Navy, if attacked, will shoot?
