HC Deb 19 May 1936 vol 312 c978
54. Mr. E. SMITH

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether his attention has been directed to the large amount of pottery manufactured in Japan and imported into India; and what steps it is proposed to take in the matter?

The UNDER-SECRETARY of STATE for INDIA (Mr. Butler)

I am aware that considerable quantities of pottery are imported into India from Japan. The duty on such imports is 30 per cent., whereas imports from the United Kingdom pay 20 per cent. I have not heard that the Government of India contemplate taking any further action.
