HC Deb 18 May 1936 vol 312 c819
20. Mr. W. ROBERTS

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is now in a position to announce the revised regulations for the attested milk scheme?

Mr. ELLIOT

The question of revising the regulations for the Attested Herd Scheme is still under consideration in connection with other aspects of milk policy. I am not able to say when an announcement will be made.

Mr. ROBERTS

Is this question also part of the right hon. Gentleman's long-term policy?

Mr. ELLIOT

We have repeatedly stated that the milk situation is being dealt with at present by a temporary Act, but will have to be dealt with by a permanent Act.

Mr. A. V. ALEXANDER

Is it not time, seeing that the Milk and Dairies Act has been on the Statute Book for 21 years, to compel all milk producers to conform with the provisions of that Act?

Mr. ELLIOT

I know the right hon. Gentleman's desire for compulsion in every form, but we think that persuasion is more effective.
