HC Deb 18 May 1936 vol 312 cc819-20
22. Mr. DAY

asked the Postmaster-General whether any arrangement has been arrived at between the Government and the British Broadcasting Corporation following the recommendations by the May Committee on National Expenditure, by which they have agreed to forgo certain sums derived from their revenue for wireless licences for the current year; and whether he will give particulars?

The POSTMASTER-GENERAL (Major Tryon)

In agreement with my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer, the special contributions made voluntarily by the British Broadcasting Corporation in aid of the Exchequer were discontinued as from 30th June, 1935.

Mr. DAY

Will there be any further opportunity for this House to discuss, on a forthcoming Vote, any further reduction in the broadcasting contribution?

Major TRYON

The hon. Member's question relates to the voluntary contribution made by the British Broadcasting Corporation at the time of the national crisis, and I have answered that question.
