51. Mr. ROSTRON DUCKWORTHasked the Secretary of State for War whether he has consulted, or will consult, large employers in Lancashire with a view to their giving greater facilities to their employés to attend Territorial camps without loss of holidays; and what replies he has so far received?
§ Sir V. WARRENDERUp to the present responsibility for approaching employers on the lines suggested by my hon. Friend has been left with Territorial Army Associations, who are in the best position to undertake it because of their 1700 knowledge of local conditions and, in many cases, personal contact between their members and the employers concerned. I am considering what further action can be taker to reinforce the associations' efforts.
§ Sir WALDRON SMITHERSIn view of the fact that many firms have come forward voluntarily and allowed this concession, will the hon. Member make public the names of those firms in order that they may be an example to others?
§ Earl WINTERTONWill the hon. Gentleman consider making a joint appeal from the heads of Government Departments to employers to do their duty in this matter
§ Sir V. WARRENDERThey are aware of the importance of this matter and all these considerations are brought to their notice.
