§ 56. Sir ROBERT TASKERasked the President of the Board of Education the value of the colour prints which have been printed in Germany and purchased for the various schools financially assisted by Exchequer grants throughout the United Kingdom; and whether there is any good reason why colour prints printed in England should not be substituted for foreign colour prints?
§ The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Oliver Stanley)I am afraid that I have no information 1701 to enable me to answer the first part of the hon. Member's question. As regards the second part, I will make what inquiries are possible as to the extent to which foreign colour prints are used and as to the possible substitution of colour prints printed in England.
§ Sir R. TASKERCannot the right hon. Gentleman obtain the information from various municipal authorities who receive Exchequer grants?
§ Mr. STANLEYNo, Sir. There are many cases in which for purchases of this kind the authority gives a sum of money to the managers, and the money is actually spent by the managers and not by the local authority.
§ Mr. MATHERSWhen the right hon. Gentleman refers to colour printing in England, does he exclude Scotland, where excellent colour printing is done?
§ Mr. STANLEYI am afraid that I acted, wrongly, on the assumption that the greater includes the less.
§ Mr. MATHERSOn a point of Order. Is it in order for the right hon. Gentleman to say that the greater, England, includes the less, Scotland? Are we not bound in this House to use the proper term, "Great Britain," in making such references?
