HC Deb 06 May 1936 vol 311 c1695
42. Mr. STUART RUSSELL

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he is aware that the development of cold storage for home-produced eggs is being prejudiced because these eggs, which have to be marked chilled or cold storage, are unable to compete on equal terms with Empire or foreign chilled eggs which bear no evidence of their condition on the shell; and what action he proposes to take to place the two categories on a basis of equality?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of AGRICULTURE (Mr. Ramsbotham)

The problem of the marking of home-produced and imported cold-stored eggs was examined by the Reorganisation Commissions for England and Wales and for Scotland, whose recommendations with regard thereto were endorsed by the Great Britain Commission which has recently reported. These recommendations are at present under consideration, together with others put forward by these Commissions, in so far as the Government may be concerned in them.
