HC Deb 04 May 1936 vol 311 cc1326-7
1. Mr. DAVID ADAMS

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether the League of Nations have made inquiries and issued any report as to the existence or non-existence of slavery in the Italian East African colonies?

The SECRETARY of STATE for FOREIGN AFFAIRS (Mr. Eden)

The Advisory Committee of Experts on Slavery set up by the Assembly of the League of Nations had before them a communication from the Italian Government, in which it was stated that slavery did not exist in Eritrea or Italian Somaliland. This communication was included in the report made by the Committee to the Council of the League in April, 1935.
