HC Deb 04 May 1936 vol 311 cc1338-9
1. Captain P. MACDONALD

asked the Minister of Transport how many meetings of the Transport Advisory Committee have been held since its inception; and whether any suggestions have been made by that body recommending methods by which an increased use might be made of coastal shipping to reduce traffic congestion in Great Britain?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

The Transport Advisory Council has met on 15 occasions and in addition there have been 77 meetings of committees of the council. The council has recently begun a series of investigations into the subject of service and rates in relation to goods traffic borne by rail, canal, road and coastwise shipping.

Captain MACDONALD

Has the right hon. Gentleman any idea when they will report on their investigations?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

I am afraid not.
