HC Deb 25 March 1936 vol 310 c1235
33. Mr. MacLAREN

asked the Minister of Transport what are the grounds of his refusal to take steps to hold a public inquiry into the proposal placed before him by a deputation from the Thames Barrage Association on 17th October last?

Mr. HORE-BELISHA

There is no sufficient body of informed opinion before me in support of the scheme to justify me in putting the numerous interests concerned to the expense and trouble of an inquiry.
