HC Deb 16 March 1936 vol 310 cc24-5
50. Mr. MARKLEW

asked the Minister of Labour whether his attention has been called to the discharge of 50 local labourers from work on the construction of the Manby, Lincs., aerodrome and their immediate substitution by 50 Irish immigrants; and whether he will consider what steps he may advise his conciliation officers to take, with a view to abating the discontent among local workmen arising out of the incident?

52. Lieut.-Colonel HENEAGE

asked the Minister of Labour whether his attention has been called to the fact that local labour is being discharged at the construction works at Manby aerodrome, Lincolnshire, and Irish labourers taken on; and whether he will take the necessary action?

Lieut.-Colonel MUIRHEAD

My information is that the contractors engaged on the construction of this aerodrome discharged 50 local labourers on 7th March because of shortage of work, but that they were not replaced by other men. I am, however, having further inquiry made.
