HC Deb 16 March 1936 vol 310 cc5-6
10. Mr. GRENFELL (fo Mr. MORGAN JONES)

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India what steps have been taken to carry out the recommendations made by the Royal Commission on Labour in India with regard to women's labour, and especially the recommendations regarding the appointment of women supervisors?

Mr. BUTLER

In respect of recommendations for Government initiative, the answer will be found in the latest report of the action taken by the Central and Provincial Governments in India on the recommendations of the Whitley Commission. I have caused one copy of this to be placed in the Library and another is being sent to the hon. Member. Action taken on recommendations such as that concerning women supervisors in which the initiative lies with authorities other than the Government is not given in the Progress Report. I will ask the Government of India what information they have on the subject.
