HC Deb 10 March 1936 vol 309 c1943
13. Mr. T. SMITH (for Mr. OLIVER)

asked the Secretary for Mines whether, with regard to the complaints sent to him with respect to the shortage of railway wagons at certain collieries in Derbyshire, which has resulted in working time being lost and, in addition, operating in some instances to defeat the men's claim to unemployment benefit, he will make representations in the appropriate quarters with a view to avoiding this dislocation and loss?

Captain CROOKSHANK

I have been in consultation with my right hon. Friend the Minister of Transport in this matter, and as a result of representations that have been made, I am informed that the wagon supply is now satisfactory at the collieries in Derbyshire from which complaints have been received.

Mr. PALING

Does not a lot of the trouble arise from the fact that these wagons belong to an excessive number of private owners? Is it not time something was done to create something in the nature of a pool?

Captain CROOKSHANK

That is quite another question.
