HC Deb 10 March 1936 vol 309 cc1938-9
6. Mr. PETHICK-LAWRENCE

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has now received replies to his circular to local authorities in Scotland relating to maternal morbidity and mortality; whether he can indicate the nature of such replies; and whether he contemplates any further action in the matter?

Sir G. COLLINS

Reports on surveys of maternity services have been received from 13 of the 55 local authorities. The nature of these reports varies according to the circumstances of each area, but in general they show a recognition of the need for further development of services. I have in contemplation further measures for dealing with the problem of maternal morbidity and mortality in Scotland.
