§ 5. Mr. MALCOLM MacMILLANasked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether he has any information regarding the proposed Celtic University in Scotland; what funds are available for the purpose; the site or sites proposed; what bodies have offered support; and whether any State assistance will be granted?
§ Sir G. COLLINSI am aware of the various forms which this project has taken since it was first proposed by the American Iona Society in 1926. I understand that the present proposal relates to the possibility of establishing a college at a site yet to be chosen in the West Highlands for the post-graduate study of Celtic languages, literature, music, arts and crafts, the funds for which would be raised entirely in America. If and when a definite plan is submitted I should have to consider, in consultation with the Departments concerned, the relation of such a college to the four Scottish universities, at three of which departments of Celtic studies already exist.
